Charles "Skip" F. Thompson

February 17, 1928 ~ December 18, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

On Monday Dec. 18th. , family, friends and the community lost an irreplaceable soul in Charles F. “ Skip “ Thompson of Pittsfield. He died at home following a long illness. Born in Pittsfield., Feb. 17,1928, he was the son of Charles F. and Ethel Murray Thompson. He was educated in the local schools and was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School. In his early years, he worked many jobs to support his family. Skip was a painter, bartender, lifeguard Pittsfield Parks Dept. Supervisor ad worked at the former Sawyer Regan Woolen Mill. In 1990, after 42 years of service, he proudly retired from the General Electric Co. Ordnance Systems as a Logistics Analyst.

Skip firmly believed in giving back to the community. Over the years, he was involved in numerous organizations. Some of which were, as a founding member of the Boys Club Alumni Association, the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, the United Way, the Council of Aging, RSVP, the G.E. Quarter Century Club, AARP, the Ralph Froio Senior Center, and both of  the IUE Locals, 255 and 254. He received numerous awards and recognitions, one of which was the Robert K. Agar, Jr.,  “ Volunteer of the Year Award ”in May of 2000. Skip proudly served as one of the “ Grand Marshalls “ of the Pittsfield 4th of July Parade.

A skilled competitive swimmer in his youth, he enjoyed taking his family to Brigantine, New Jersey every summer during the GE shutdown time. Skip loved and was a true loyal fan of all the New England sports teams. Most of all, his family will always remember his love of music, his infectious whistle, his radiant smile and love of life, friends and family.

He and the “  love of his life “,  his wife, the former Barbara M. Londergan, celebrated their 71st  wedding anniversary this past March 9th 2017 .

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Charles F. Thompson, III. ( Nancy ) of Lenox, his 3 daughters, Jacqueline R. Flossic ( Stephen ), Paula J. Gaherty-Granito ( Tom Granitto ) and Sharon  A. LeSage ( Paul ) , al of Pittsfield, his two brothers, William J. Thompson of Dalton and John “ Jack” Thompson of W. Palm ,Fl. , 17 grandchildren  and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda M. Therrien, who died March 29,2017,  his brother, James Thompson and his sister, Ruth Thompson Sondrini . 

Skip’s wife, and family would like to give heartfelt thanks to Dad’s loving caregivers, “ His Man”, Andy Ahoussi as well as to a family member, Errol Fiorentino and Danielle of HospiceCare of the Berkshires.

Thompson, Charles F. “ Skip”, age 89, died Dec. 18th.   There are no calling hours. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Charles Church on Wednesday, Dec. 27th with the Rev. Christopher J.  “ CJ ”  Waitekus, family friend and  pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Ludlow, Ma., officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Berkshire County ion care of the funeral home.
