Daniel R. Root, age 34, of 150 Linden St. died Friday, Aug. 4th. He was born in Pittsfield, Sept. 20, 1982, the son of Stephen W. Root and Donna Gendreau Jean. Educated in the Berkshire Hills Regional Schools, he attended Monument Mountain Regional High School prior to achieving his GED. Continuing his education, he studied Liberal Arts at Berkshire Community College.
A professional chef for 15 years, he was employed at Zucchini’s Restaurant for the past four years and Mazzeo’s Ristorante for ten years prior.
As an inspired great chef, cooking was not only his occupation but his avocation. He loved to make and serve all kinds of dishes for his family and friends. An artist and poet, he enjoyed painting and drawing and was very passionate about his music. Not as a musical performer, but rather he used music to communicate and to convey his thoughts.
He is survived by his ex-wife and the love of his life Heather Grover and was the ‘ proud Daddy’ of his two sons Finley Jude Root and Hollis Beck Root, all at home; his step-children: Nicholas H. Smith of Allston, Ma and Kayla S. Smith of Malden, Ma., his mother-in- law Marilyn R. Gerhard and her husband, Michael, of Pittsfield, his parents, Stephen W. Root and his wife, Angela and their two sons of Norfolk, Ct., his mother Donna G. Jean of Pittsfield, his brother Stephen M. Root of Hudson, NY, his two sisters: Rachelle R. Gayle and her husband Nigel Gayle of Pittsfield, and Amanda R. Kennedy and her husband Adam Kennedy of Richmond, Va. Daniel was also the proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Daniel also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his paternal grandfather Stephen L. Root of Housatonic, Ma.
He was predeceased by his mothers’ husband, Emmanuel Jean.
Root, Daniel R., age 34, of Pittsfield, died Aug. 4th. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be from 4 to 6 pm Thursday, Aug. 10th. The Celebration of his Life service will then follow at 6:00 PM.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ‘ The Finley and Hollis Root Fund’ c/ o Rachelle Gayle which is being established to benefit his children. The family requests that these donations be mailed to the funeral home.
