Florence L. Gaylord, of 61 Orchard Street died Saturday, October 7th after a short illness. She was born in Pittsfield, March 18, 1924 the daughter of Harry P. and Gladys E. Godfrey Gaylord. She was educated in the Pittsfield School system and is a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She has been a resident of Pittsfield since 1963. Prior to that she and her husband, Dennis J Amlaw, Sr., whom she married June 30, 1950 in Canaan, resided in Dalton. She was predeceased by her husband, December 13, 1982.

She worked as a waitress at the former Berkshire Restaurant in her early years. She then became employed as a frame spinner at Wyandotte Worsted for 12 years. She also worked in the cafeteria at Bryon Weston and was a nurse’s aide, cook and dietary aide for the former Dalton Convalescent Home. She worked for Berkshire Medical Center in the laundry department for several years. She retired in 1995.

She is a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, a member of the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center and a volunteer for Elder Services of Pittsfield. Her hobbies included reading, cooking and playing bingo.

She is survived by: one son, Frank D. Amlaw, one step son, Dennis J. Amlaw, Jr. both of Pittsfield, three granddaughters, two great grandsons, several step grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Hazel M. Tubbs Dimitropolis of Pittsfield, her two brothers, John E. Gaylord of Vancouver, B.C., and Alfred A. Gaylord of Unionville, CT, and her companion and friend, Norman J. Huffsteter, Sr. of Pittsfield.

Florence L. (Gaylord) Amlaw, died Saturday, October 7th. Funeral Services and Burial will follow at a later date in Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
