Mr. Mark D. Wannamaker, age 66, of 21 Brattle St. Pittsfield, died Wed. Feb. 8th at the Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness. He was born in Pittsfield, Sept. 11, 1950, the son of the late Wilfred C. and Irene McDonough Wannamaker. He was educated in the local schools and was a 1969 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Continuing his education, he attended Berkshire Community College prior to entering the Army National Guard. Upon his discharge, he became employed as a computer systems engineer with General Electric and retired from its successor, General Dynamics in 2006 with 30 years of service.
A quiet and unassuming gentleman, he loved everything outdoors, including tending to his large garden at home. From a young boy, he was a birdwatcher, raised hawks and had a pet crow. Most of all, he cherished his role as a husband, father and grandfather.
His wife of 35 years, the former Paul Oppidi, died June 15, 2007.
He is survived by his daughter, Marlana Ellsworth of Pittsfield, 2 sisters, KathyAnn Voltoline and Lisa L. Wannamaker, both of Pittsfield, his brother, Jon Wannamaker of Oregon. He was the ‘ very proud ’ Pa’ of his two granddaughters, Bailey Prescott and Elexis Kukevitch, his 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
Wannamaker, Mark D., age 66, of Pittsfield died Feb. 8th. The family will receive friends THIS SATURDAY afternoon, Feb. 11th at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME beginning at 1:00 pm. The Celebration of his Life service will follow at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a newly establish Educational Fund for the benefit of his two granddaughters, Bailey and Elexis in care of the funeral home.
