Mr. Robert C. Chapman, age 75, of Dalton, Ma., died Tuesday morning at the Hillcrest Commons after a brief illness. He was born in Pittsfield, Aug. 6, 1941, the son of the late Raymond and Marion Felix Chapman. Educated in the local schools, he attended Pittsfield High School. Mr. Chapman was employed as an inspector at the former General Electric Co. Naval Ordnance Systems and subsequently, with Lockheed Martin following its acquisition. He retired with a combined 35 years of service in 1995. He also was employed at the Berkshire Eagle for over 11 years .
As a longtime member of the Troy Boat Club, he enjoyed boating on the Hudson River for 20 plus year aboard his 32 ft. boat, named the “ Seven C’s ”. He was a 30 year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, # 272. A big fan of NASCAR, he supported Matt Kenseth and his team. In his younger years, he also enjoyed racing stock cars at Lebanon Valley. Bob enjoyed motorcycling with his family and spending time with his grandchildren
He and his wife of 57 years, the former Virginia Baker, were married April 2, 1960.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert C. Chapman, Jr., of Pittsfield, his two daughters, Robin D. Linnemanstons and her husband, John, of Mequon, Wis., Marcie-Jo Cimini and her fiancé, John Gingras, of Pittsfield, his brother, William Chapman of Pittsfield, his 6 grandchildren, Robert III, John (Becky) , Katherine, Richard, Elizabeth and Thomas. He was predeceased by his two other brothers, Raymond Chapman and Richard Chapman.
