Arthur William Smith

Arthur William Smith, also known as “Smitty” to his friends and loved ones passed away on December 5th, 2024, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Arthur was born to the late Mary Rose Wallace and Charles William Smith on September 21, 1943, in Plymouth, MA. He was the eldest child of three siblings. Arthur grew up in Pittsfield, MA where he raised his own family. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles William Smith and his sister, Patricia Smith Marquis. Arthur married his late wife, Ann Smith (Litano) in1965.

Arthur graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Pittsfield, MA. He worked for Eaton Paper Company for 18 years, Beloit Jones for 10 years and more recently Johnson Ford for 20 years where he retired from in August 2024.

Arthur was a huge New England Sports Fan and enjoyed conversing with his friends and family about players and team performances. Arthur rarely missed a game that was being broadcast whether it was the Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox or Celtics. He loved Ford trucks, so much so that he spent the last few decades devoted to Johnson Ford. Anywhere he was spotted in the community, you could hear someone yelling “Hey Smitty” and he was likely driving in his Ford F150 or at Dunkin Donuts with his coffee crew.

Arthur is survived by his daughter Tina Conner, grandson Scott William Conner and partner Amy Johansson as well as his great grandchildren Adrianna Conner and Aiden Conner, granddaughter Jeniffer Conner Carney and husband John Carney, as well as his great grandson, Julien Carney. He also leaves his daughter Kimberly Meczywor and her husband Theodore Meczywor II and his granddaughter Meghan Meczywor and her partner Michael Wojtaszek.

Arthur was a devoted family man. He especially doted over his grandchildren who meant the world to him. He was thrilled to have had the opportunity to be in his three great grandchildren's lives. As much as Arthur loved and supported his family, he was equally the light of all their lives.

The immediate family will be holding private services in his honor.
