Caroline R. Martin Dietlin , age 80, of 218 Orchard Rd. Dalton, died Saturday night at the Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility where she had been a patient since May 3rd. She was born in Pittsfield, Oct. 16, 1936,she was one of three children of the late Albert W. and Lillian LaVigne Martin. She moved to Dalton as a young girl and was a 1954 graduate of the former Dalton High School. Following the death of her husband, Art, in 1986, she obtained her driving license returned to the work force. Caroline was employed as a stock room clerk when J.C. Penny’s Store opened in the Berkshire Mall and retired from there after 10 years of service.
A faithful communicant of St. Agnes church in Dalton, she was a long time member of the Senior Center where served luncheons at the Center. A daily swimmer at the pool at the Dalton CRA, she enjoyed knitting and making quilts for family and friends. A life long Red Sox fan, she loved raising and playing with her terrier, Hermione.
Her husband of nearly 32 years, Arthur R. Dietlin, whom she married Sept. 24, 1955, died Aug. 4, 1986.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Scott A. Dietlin and his wife, Kari of Pittsfield, Richard E. Dietlin of Dalton and his wife, Teresa, her 2 daughters, Lori A. Herrick and her husband, Bob of Pittsfield and Jean M. Beutien of Dalton, 10 grandchidlren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Her other son, Arthur R. Dietlin,Jr. died December 16, 2004.
Dietlin, Caroline R., age 80 of Dalton ,died May 6th. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Wednesday, May 9th from 4 to 7. Funeral Services will be THURSDAY morning at 9:00 am followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Agnes Church with the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashuelot St. Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Dalton Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
