Charlene Grace (Hebb) Rugg, age 64, passed away unexpectedly in the comforts of her home on Monday, June 13, 2022. Charlene was born July 29, 1957, and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna (Martell) Hebb.
Charlene married James Rugg Sr. at First Church in Sterling on May 8, 1988. She was incredibly proud of her adult children, Heather and James, singing their praises to all she met. She enjoyed spending the holidays with friends and family, going out for ice cream, and playing with her “grand-puppies,” Summer and Logan. Charlene loved spending time at the beach with her toes in the sand, from the shores of Rhode Island to the southern coast of Maine. You could often find her listening or singing along to her favorite oldies and country songs, especially on car rides with her daughter.
Charlene loved very deeply and had the exceptional ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, as if she’d known them forever. She always cared for and comforted others, and will be fondly remembered by her neighbors and members of her community.
She is survived by her husband, James Rugg Sr. of Sterling Massachusetts; her daughter, Heather Rugg, and her fiancé, Tony Matta, of Watertown, Massachusetts; and her son, James Rugg Jr. and his wife, Nicole, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. She also leaves behind several siblings including her sister and best friend, Collette Hebb, and her partner Bruce Drinkwater of Auburn, Maine; her brother Jimmy Hebb of Illinois; and her sister Nadine Hebb of Pepperell, Massachusetts; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her brother, Dougie Hebb of Oklahoma.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at First Church in Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Sterling, MA, with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. All are welcome back to the church for a reception after the burial service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlene’s memory may be made payable to First Church in Sterling and mailed directly to the church at PO Box 40, Sterling, MA 01564
