Daryl Anne Wheeler

Daryl Ann Wheeler, 86, of Pittsfield, MA, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on January 11, 2025. Born on January 22, 1938, in Pittsfield, she was the daughter of William and Rachel Messer. Daryl graduated from Pittsfield High School and later earned her associate degree in Physical Education from Berkshire Community College playing on the women’s basketball team wearing # 0, because she was the oldest.

On June 1,1957 Daryl married Kenneth L. Wheeler, the love of her life. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming their sons Kenneth in August 1958 and David two years later in June 1960. Daryl took immense pride in her family and led by example, instilling values of love and dedication. 

Daryl spent most of her life in Pittsfield, where she lived, and worked different jobs including a Paraprofessional at Pittsfield Public Schools and Dispatcher for the Pittsfield Fire Department.  She was a self-taught accomplished quilter whose creations are cherished treasures.  Daryl enjoyed participating in the Red Hat Society, Polish Falcon’s and the Italian American Club, where she delighted in playing bocce. Daryl loved to visit the area casinos whether she had good luck or not.

Daryl is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 42 years; her brothers Francis and Phillip Messer; her sister-in-law Caroline Messer and her most beloved dog Katie.

Her memory will be lovingly cherished by her sons: Kenneth M. Wheeler (Weslia) of Pittsfield, MA, and David W. Wheeler (Theresa) of Pensacola, FL; her grandchildren: Kristee Desposito (Glenn) of Murfreesboro, TN, Kenneth Wheeler (Austyn) of Pensacola, FL and her step grandchildren Michael and Timothy Schmidt of Pittsfield, MA; her five great-grandchildren: Maddux, Turner, Paxton, Kollyns, and Peyton; her sister-in-law Rosemary Messer of Northampton, MA; her nieces and nephews: Timothy, Mary, John, Kirsten and Michael;  her grand nieces and nephews; as well as her best boy Chip.

Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to Ms. Sandy Lavato for her unwavering and dedicated friendship to our mother, thank you.

SERVICES: Friends are invited to join Daryl's family at the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home on FRIDAY, January 24, 2025, beginning at 11AM. A Funeral Home prayer service will begin at 1PM by Fr. Matthew Barone from St. Charles Church. Burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery in Pittsfield. 

 In lieu of flowers, donations in Daryl’s memory can be made to the Polish Falcon’s Nest #580 Kids Program in care of Devanny-Condron Funeral Home.
