Deborah A. DeFreest, age 65, of 433 Crane Ave. Apt. # 1, Pittsfield, died Friday, Aug. 27th at the Berkshire Medical Center following a long illness. She was born in Pittsfield Sept. 17, 1955, the daughter of the late Alfred E. and Beverly A. Lajoie DeFreest.
Educated in the local schools, Deb was a 1973 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She began her career at the former A.H. Rice’s Silk Mill following graduation. Employed in several capacities there, she supervised the production of Silamide Thread, a wax thread and later, was employed in the Furrier Thread department which was produced for both the Fur Coat and high end Tailored Suits. Deb retired upon the closing of the Mill in 2006.
Known for her great sense of humor, Deb had the unique ability to make friends throughout her life. A daily fan of Jeopardy, she also excelled in completing Cross Word Puzzles.
She is survived by her two brothers Alfred ” Fred “ DeFreest II and his wife, Tina, of Pittsfield and John J. DeFreest, of Pittsfield, and her two nephews, Alfred DeFreest III and Jacob DeFreest.
Funeral services will be held this THURSDAY, Sept. 2nd afternoon at 1:00 pm at the DEVANNY-CONDRON Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.
