Donald Johnson

July 4, 1932 ~ April 11, 2022 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Donald (Don) Johnson, age 89, beloved husband of Serena M. Johnson went home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2022.  He leaves three children, Son, Shawn D. Johnson and wife Peggy of Seattle, WA, daughter, Jodi L. Maxwell and husband Ken of Troy, NY, daughter Cindy A. Peters and husband Charles of Franklin, MA, as well as three grandchildren, Cassidy Peters, Kyran Peters and Mackenzie Peters.

Don was the son of Linus and Anna Johnson who came to the U.S. from Tidaholm, Sweden.  He was the youngest of 12 and was pre-deceased by his brothers Walt, Nils, Gus, Gunnar, Eskil and Conrad along with two sisters, Martha and Lily as well as three babies.  He leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins along with many family members still living in Sweden.

He was born in West Warwick, RI where he graduated High School at the age of 16.  He then worked as an apprentice for an engraving company before it went out of business.  He served 4 years in the Air Force stationed in Japan and Korea during the war and also took classes at University of Kansas. He received his bachelors degree at the University of Rhode Island with honors. He was hired by the General Electric Company in Pittsfield, MA where he met his wife, Serena.  They were married in 1965.  They moved to Latham, NY in 1970 when he was transferred to Schenectady, NY as a Tax Accountant. A year or so before he retired he worked in the Corporate Offices in Albany, NY.  He was employed by G.E. for 30 years and retired in 1992. The day he retired Serena & Don took a road trip around the country for about a month.  Upon their return they moved into their new condo at On Top Of The World in Clearwater, FL for ten years.  There were several years they were snow birds living half a year in Troy, NY and half a year in Largo, FL. Finally in 2017 they made Florida their permanent home.

Don loved golf, bowling, softball, horseshoes and many other sports.  His favorite teams were usually from New England or Boston.  He especially liked that Tom Brady and Gronk came to Tampa. He loved the beach and going to Frenchy's. He also loved having summer adventures with the grandchildren.

Don was able to visit Sweden twice, once with his nephew Joel, and then again with both his daughter Cindy and his nephew Joel.  These were cherished trips that he would often talk about as they met so many of their relatives there.

Don and Serena attended Waterford Wesleyan Church in Waterford, NY when up north  and very much enjoyed their fellowship.

Don was a member of Paradise Island Church In The Park in Florida for many years and loved being a part of the family of believers there.  He will be greatly missed.
