Donald Oliver

March 5, 1931 ~ December 27, 2023 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Mr. Donald Edward Oliver, age 92, of Pittsfield and formerly of New Bedford, MA died peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

Born on March 5, 1931, Donald was one of four children of the late Joseph and Virginia (Silvia) Oliver. He attended New Bedford Vocational High School and went on to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, Donald moved home and began his nearly 30 year career with the New Bedford Department of Public Works. He served as the carpentry foreman and retired in 1988.

Donald was smart and quick-witted. He could figure out how things worked just by looking at them and never required a formal education to carry out the incredible things he did in his life, which included him and his father building their home from the ground up. He could do anything and he loved to be active.

Donald married the former Anne O’Neill on October 13, 1956. The two shared a love story uncommon in today’s world. They were married for nearly 61 years before her passing on September 1, 2017. He missed her every day.

Don and Anne enjoyed their home vegetable garden and together looked forward to the challenge it provided to them every year.

He loved football and was an avid New England Patriots fan, a pastime he and his son enjoyed together.

Donald is survived by his son, Daniel E. Oliver and his wife Karen Breen-Oliver, of Cheshire, four grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and dear friends of the Oliver family.

In addition to his beloved wife Anne, Donald was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph Oliver, Evelyn Valadas and Mary Oliver.

Services were held privately for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Oliver may be made payable to “Hospice Care in the Berkshires” and mailed to the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home at 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201
