DALTON- Dorothy A. Cary, age 76, died Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a sudden illness.
Dorothy was born in Pittsfield, the oldest daughter of the late John O. and Genevieve R. (Gardner) Tucker. She was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, and then went on to work for a short time in clothing sales at Flah’s of Albany and as a waitress.
Dorothy was primarily a homemaker for most of her life, and was a terrific mom and grandma to her 4 boys and 4 grandchildren. She was content with being at home, and loved to watch the Red Sox.
She is survived by three sons, Daniel Smithies of Dalton, Timothy Smithies of Pittsfield, and Scott Cary of Virginia, and four grandchildren, Elizabeth & Aidan Cary and Samantha & Tucker Smithies. She also leaves three sisters, Christine Tucker of NY, Isabelle Fassell and Sue Tucker, both of Lee, and her brother Jack Tucker of Pittsfield, many nieces and nephews, and her former daughters-in-law, Gretchen and Deborah.
Dorothy was predeceased by her oldest son, Michael Smithies, in 2014, as well as her brother Jeff Tucker.
SERVICES: Graveside services for Dorothy will be MONDAY, August 13th at 12 O’clock Noon at the Pittsfield Cemetery. Please meet inside the gate.
Memorial Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to The Devanny-Condron Funeral Home, 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA to assist the family with funeral expenses.
