Dorothy MacDonald

Dorothy June Belmore MacDonald, age 86, of Pittsfield passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

Born in Marlborough, MA on February 25, 1936, Dorothy, or Penna as her parents and siblings called her, was the daughter of the late Lloyd Belmore and Madelyn Taubner Belmore. She was a 1953 graduate of Marlborough High School and worked as a paraprofessional at South Junior High and Herberg Middle School from 1971-1998.

Dot married Donald MacDonald, III on December 20, 1955. The two were married for 52 wonderful years before Don passed away on January 12, 2008.

She was an avid gardener and loved working in her perennial garden. She was still working out in her yard up until last year with the help of her granddaughter Laurie Macdonald.

Dot loved shopping and was the most generous person you’d ever met. She loved spoiling her family and ensured Christmas was special for everyone in her life. She enjoyed going for many adventures with her daughters and enjoyed her weekly shepherd’s pie trip to Bob’s Country Kitchen. In her younger years, Dot loved travelling with her sister Barbara. The two would frequent the Cape, the casino and going to The Christmas Tree Shops.

Dot was an animal lover, especially her beloved dogs Apollo and Gypsy, and she spent every winter feeding over 200 ducks in her back yard.

She is survived by her three children, Scott MacDonald, Lynn Collins, and Cindy MacDonald, all of Pittsfield, 9 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.  She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Dot was predeceased by her siblings William Belmore and Barbara Moran.

Services will be private for her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to “Berkshire Humane Society” and mailed to the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home at 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201
