Edward Joseph Bigelow

Edward Joseph Bigelow passed away peacefully at BMC on May 7, 2022, surrounded by his wife, Laurie, and family. Born in Pittsfield on December 20, 1951, Ed was the son of Nicolena Bigelow Cencia and the late Edward F Bigelow. Ed was educated in local schools and went on to serve in the US Army from 1969-1971. Upon his return home he earned his associates degree at Berkshire Community College. A truck driver and painter by trade, he retired in 2008. For many years, Ed had been sober and was incredibly proud that he would have reached 30 years of sobriety this August. On August 8, 2012 Ed married Laurianne, they would have celebrated their ten year anniversary this August. He enjoyed fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle. He went on many trips with his group the WORMS, “We only ride motorcycles sober” as well as many daytrips and vacations with his wife Laurie. Ed loved being with his family, and spent all the time he could with his children Andrew, Jazzie, Sami, Marci and anytime he could get to Rhode Island to see John. Ed loved being with his grandkids, Liliana, Dominic, Cayden and Amelia, who he spent a lot of time with. In addition to his mother Nicolena Bigelow and his wife, Laurie, he is survived by his children Marci Bachand (Skip) of Pittsfield, John Bigelow (Erica) of Rhode Island, Edward Bigelow Jr of New Hampshire, Anthony Bigelow (Kelly), Kerry Dipretro, Sami Nielson, Jazmine Seay and Andrew Defino, all of Pittsfield. He also leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren who he loved and adored, and his siblings Charlotte Trombley (Thomas) of Washington, Louise Barnes, Hazel Romero, Celia Forth, all of Pittsfield, Carol French (Donald) of Dalton, Marianne Santana, Tina Pularo, Frank Bigelow, and Leonard Bigelow, all of Pittsfield and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Edward F Bigelow, who died in 1985, brother Armand Bigelow who died in 2016 and sister Teresa Bigelow who died in 2021. Friends and family are invited to meet outside the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home on August 13, 2022 at 10:00 to form a procession line to the Pittsfield Cemetery. A graveside service will be held at 10:30.
