Edward William Nugent
December 23, 1946 ~ January 19, 2024 (age 77) 77 Years Old
Edward William “Billy” Nugent, passed away on January 19, 2024 at Hillcrest Commons after battling several medical problems.
He was born in Pittsfield, MA on December 23, 1946 a son of the late Edward B. and Martha Frances (Maxwell) Nugent. Ed graduated from Pittsfield High School with honors in 1964. During his time at PHS, he participated in baseball, basketball and skiing.
Growing up, Billy was always busy with sports and doting on his younger siblings; driving them to the movies and bringing them wherever they wanted to go.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree Magnum Cum Laude from Boston College and went on to obtain his Master’s degree in accounting from Northeastern University with honors.
Ed was working for Price Waterhouse Accounting Firm in Boston when he was drafted. He successfully completed Officer Candidates School and served his Country in the Army in Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze Star while stationed in Saigon. When he returned home, he battled with PTSD.
He was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church in Pittsfield.
Billy is survived by his three brothers, Joseph B. Nugent, Christopher A. Nugent and Clement Nugent, his sister Jane Nugent and many cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hillcrest Commons for their friendship, compassion and care of Ed. They would also like to thank the staff of Hospice Care in the Berkshires.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 4-5:30PM at the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home. A funeral home prayer service will begin at 5:30PM led by Rev. Matthew Barone. Burial with Military Honors will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Billy’s memory may be made payable to “Hospice Care in the Berkshires”, “Berkshire Humane Society” or “Soldier On, INC.” and mailed to the funeral home at 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201
