He was raised in Somersworth, New Hampshire and was a graduate with the 1954 class of Somersworth High School. As a young man, he enjoyed fishing, skiing New Hampshire peaks and even lobstering during summer. Ed then went on to enroll in the General Electric Manufacturing Training Program in association with the University of New Hampshire. He earned his bachelor's degree from UNH in 1959 and was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha. He enjoyed the friendships made in the brotherhood and the training program throughout his life. He retired as a quality control engineer in the General Electric Ordinance division after 40 years of service. Ed was proud of the support he provided to the US military during his time working with GE Ordinance.
A man who enjoyed being with his family, Ed was known for his terrible dad jokes and the wonderful support and love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren. He cherished the time he spent watching wildlife in his yard, especially the birds and the bears. Ed was also an avid gardener and grew the most beautiful flowers. He also enjoyed tending to his house plants and sharing meals (especially lobster) with family.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman, loving to ski, hunt and fish. He and his late wife Norma traveled extensively; with a yearly visit to their condo in Saint Martin, beach trips to Cape Cod, and trips to the Canadian Rockies, New Mexico and Arizona. He was a man of faith and was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield. Ed married the former Norma Connally in 1988 at their home on Nancy Avenue. Their love story was one their family cherished and admired. Norma passed away on February 14, 2022 with her loving husband missing her every day.
