Elizabeth Harrington

March 8, 1928 ~ December 3, 2023 (age 95) 95 Years Old


Mrs. Elizabeth W. Harrington, age 95, of Pittsfield, died Sunday morning at the Mount Carmel Care Center where she had been a patient since September 23, 2023.
She was born March 8, 1928, the daughter of the late Francis and Emily Breault Williams. Elizabeth graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1946 and married her late husband, Arthur Jerome Harrington in August of 1947. She was the co-owner and manager of the Looking Glass Children's Store 1970-1982 and a realtor with Esther Quinn's Real Estate Office 1984-1990.
Elizabeth was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, a member of the Altar Guild, the Hospitality committee, Stewardship committee, Restoration committee, and chairwoman for the Endowment Fund. She was president of the Episcopal Churchwomen for the Diocese of Western Massachusetts and as the Resolutions chairwoman, she presented the first resolution for the Ordination of women within the Episcopal Church at the National Convention in Houston, Texas in September 1978.
She also served as President of the 94th Infantry Auxiliary in Kansas City, Kansas in 1996 and as the President of PEO Chapter T.
Elizabeth is survived by her three daughters, Jan H. Sparks (George F. Sparks III), Jyl E. Harrington (Todd J. Jackson) and Joy H. Kennedy (W. James Kennedy), her sister, JoAnn W. Beaulieu (Roger), her 7 grandchildren, Emily S. Cochren (Tony), Arthur H. Sparks (Jaime), Andrew D. Sparks, Elizabeth S. Shaw (Stuart), Eryn Harrington-Jackson (Keith Hamilton), Rachel Jackson-Roth (Andrew Roth), William "Jayme" Kennedy (Paula Becerra) and her ten great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by all five of her brothers, John, Robert, Richard, James and Paul.
A special thank you to the staff at Mt. Carmel Care Center for all they did for Elizabeth. Her family greatly appreciated all their kindness, understanding, and compassion.
A Celebration of Elizabeth's Life will take place next Spring with interment to follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery.
