Ellen Marie Cooney

Ellen Marie Cooney, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in El Paso, TX on December 26, 1951, Ellen was the daughter of the late Marion E. (Meehan) Cooney and John R. Cooney. She was a 1969 graduate of Pittsfield High School and then went on to earn her bachelor's degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms in 1973. Ellen majored in French and minored in Spanish.
She spent much of her career working in insurance and most recently worked for Guardian Life Insurance for over 15 years. In her retirement, Ellen loved her many lunches with her fellow retirees.
Ellen was an animal lover, especially cats, and will be missed by her cat Lola. She loved shopping and was notorious for always giving the best gifts. She was a wonderful aunt and loved her nieces and nephews so much.
She was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Church and lived most of her life in Pittsfield. In the last few years she moved to Barrett House in Adams where she made so many friends.
Ellen is survived by her siblings, John E. Cooney (Bonnie) of Eldersburg, MD, David J. Cooney (Cynthia) of Humble, TX, and Lisa Enos (George) of Upton, MA, and her nieces and nephews, John Cooney, Meaghan (Andy) Mejia, Matthew (Julie) Cooney, Edward Cooney and Lindsay Enos. She also leaves her great nieces Natalia and Jaclyn, her great nephew Logan, many cousins and her dear friends Mary Ann Graney and Christine Hover.
SERVICES: Friends are invited to join the family on SATURDAY, July 9, 2022 from 11-1PM at the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held TUESDAY, July 12, 2022 at 11AM at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Please meet inside the cemetery gate at 10:45AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to "Berkshire Humane Society" and mailed to the funeral home at 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201
