It is with heavy hearts to announce the passing of our dear loving father, Jim Gallagher, and "Poppy" to his grandchildren on Wednesday January 25, 2023. He has left this earth for eternal life, but he will always be with us in our hearts and spirit.
Jim was born in Pittsfield a son of the late Margaret Louise and Edward A. Gallagher. He was a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph's High School where he's remembered as an incredible 3 sport athlete and went on to attend Notre Dame on an academic and athletic scholarship. Jim enlisted in the US Navy at the end of World War II. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned home to Pittsfield where he worked as a Senior Procurement Specialist for GE Ordnance Systems.
Jim was an avid sports fan, especially the New England Patriots, the Boston Celtics and he was a lifelong Red Sox fan. He was a kind and generous man and will be remembered for his great laugh and benevolence. He loved being with his family and found no greater joy than sharing a meal with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Gallagher was a man of great faith and was a member of St. Mary's Morning Star church for 44 years until their closure. He married the former Marie Idola St. Peter on June 30, 1951. Marie passed away October 12, 1992.
Jim is survived by his children, Pamela (Stephen) Groves of Pittsfield, Cheryl (William) Cucino of Scituate, RI, Colleen (John) Gallagher Harmon of Cheshire, and James F. Gallagher of Walled Lake, MI, his grandchildren, Christopher (Laura) Groves, Shelby (Michael) Patton, Trevor Groves, Nicholas Cucino, Joseph (Toni) Cucino, Kendra (Luke) D'Allesandro, Kelly (Daniel) MacPherson, MD, Brenna (Thomas) Sapienza, Andrew (Samantha) Harmon, Ethan (Lauren) Harmon and Aurora Gallagher. He also leaves 6 great grandchildren, Sophia Marie, Lilly, Kekoa, Riley, Brandyn, and Parker, and many nieces, nephews and cousins to include his cousin Jane Cyr and his sister-in-law Aniela St. Peter.
In addition to his wife, Jim was predeceased by two brothers, John L. and Edward Gallagher.
