Mr. James F. Gardner, age 83, of 190 McIntosh Dr. Pittsfield, passed away Sunday at his home.  He was born in Bennington, Vt., July 17, 1934, the son of the late Cleon E. and Lena Allen Gardner. He attended the schools there and came to Pittsfield in 1955. Employed in the shipping dept. of Crane & Co., he retired in 1995 with 38 years of service.

Mr. Gardner was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War era, serving overseas in Thule, Greenland for 2 years and later for 1 year in Okinawa, Japan. An avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Helen, out west, skiing in Colorado, trips to Las Vegas and to many locations throughout Florida. A life member of the Ralph Froio Senior Center in Pittsfield, he was a 51 year member of the Dalton American Legion, Post # 155.

He and his wife, the former Helen R. Smith, celebrated their 61st anniversary this past June 16th.

In addition to his wife, James is survived several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Raymond Gardner, Cleon Gardner and John Gardner.

Gardner, James H., age 83, of Pittsfield, died Dec. 17th. Private funeral services for the family will be held at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME WITH THE Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor of St. Agnes Church in Dalton, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of the funeral home.
