John F. "Jack" Harte

PITTSFIELD, MA- John F. "Jack" Harte Jr. died August 16, 2018 at the Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility after a short illness.
Jack was born in Pittsfield on Feb. 9, 1926, the son of the late John F. Harte Sr. and Helen Hanaway Harte. He graduated from the former St. Joseph's Grammar School and the former Cranwell School in Lenox. Following graduation, John served in the Army AirCorps from 1943-1945 during World War II.
Mr. Harte then returned home to Pittsfield, and graduated from the General Electric Toolmaking Apprentice Program. He was employed in Industrial Engineering positions during his GE employment. He then served as Manager of Plant Operations at A.H. Rice Company in Pittsfield, and Jack was also proud to have been the former owner of Harte's Package and Variety store.
Mr. Harte was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph's Church, and he was also a member of the American Legion, the Polish Community Club and GEAA Golf Club.
Jack enjoyed traveling with his beloved Jennie, weekly golf outings, wintering in Florida, a good campfire and an occasional pint of Bud Light at Thursday night club.
He loved nothing more than spending time with his family. We were so blessed to have him in our lives, and nothing will be quite the same without him.
John married the former Jennie Ropelewski on May 14, 1949. Jennie passed away May 31, 1990.
Mr. Harte is survived by his 3 children, David Harte, Debra King and her husband Anthony, and Kathleen Chiaretto and her husband Terrance "Pep", all of Pittsfield, and 10 grandchildren, David (Colleen), Julie, Jeffrey (Brianna) and Sean Harte, Courtney, Michael (Kate), Shannon and Megan (Elizabeth) King, Jessica (Brandon) Houlihan and Marcus Chiaretto. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren who fondly referred to him as "Grampa Jack", Jake, Kacie and Kylie Harte, Troy and Cal Soldato, and Lucy and Grace Houlihan, his brother, Richard Harte and his wife Betsy of Troy, NY, his sister-in-law Irene Ropelewski of Pittsfield and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by a brother James Harte, his sister Catherine Kelly and his beloved daughter-in-law Sherry Harte.
SERVICES: Calling Hours for Mr. Harte will be MONDAY, August 20th at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME from 4-7pm. The celebration of his life will continue TUESDAY morning, beginning at the Funeral Home at 8:15am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9am at St. Joseph's Church of Pittsfield, MA with Rev. Msgr. Michael Shershanovich officiating. Burial will follow with his wife and parents at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Berkshire County Jimmy Fund or to St. Joseph's Church, in care of the Funeral Home.
