Tribute

Julia DeCarlo, age 94, of 4 Wilson Street, Pittsfield, died Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Berkshire Medical Center. She was born in Pittsfield, December 21, 1927, the daughter of the late Raymond A. and Anna Mae Fitzpatrick Brindamour.  She attended the former Pontoosuc School and Pittsfield High School. Initially employed at the Boston Auto Gauge Co. on Center Street, she went to work at the former Sheaffer Eaton Paper Company.  Julia was later employed at the former Greylock Plastics Co. prior to going to work at the former England Brothers Department Store on North Street.  Julia had held a series of positions with the former companies, Bordens’ Cleaners, G.E. Transformer, the former Wyandotte and Elmvale Mills as well as the former Holden & Stone store on North Street.

Julia enjoyed her position as a Pittsfield Census taker for the city.  A daily communicant, she taught CCD at the former Mt. Carmel Church. An accomplish cook and baker, she taught cake baking at Taconic High School to the adult evening classes.

Julia loved doing crossword puzzles.  

In 1984, she moved to make her home, in Las Vegas where she resided for 8 years prior to returning to Pittsfield in 1992. While there in Vegas, she was employed at Sams’ Town Emporium.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Carmella A. Smead, with whom she resided, her son, Philip M. DeCarlo of Pittsfield, her brother, Ernest Belair of Las Vegas, NV and her 4 loving grandchildren, Ashton, Brandy and Hunter Smead and his wife, Kyiana Smead-Rivera and Danielle DeCarlo, and one great granddaughter, Nylani Smead-Rivera.

Julia is predeceased by her two daughters, Linda Marie DeCarlo and Rose Marie DeCarlo and an infant son, Michael DeCarlo. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Rosemary Wrinn, Elaine Maschino, Patricia Hoag, and William and Patrick Toomey.

Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be this THURSDAY, January 13, 2022 from 4 to 6 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to help defray cemetery expenses.
