Kathleen Yon

Kathleen Yon, age 84, formerly of Velma Ave. in Pittsfield passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 31st at Lee Health Care after a long illness.

Born in Pittsfield on April 27, 1937, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Harold and Katherine Leonard Yon. She was educated in the local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1955.

She began her career at General Electric Company that same year, initially employed in administrative work. Kath retired as a Computer Librarian in 1992 after 37 years of service with GE.

Following her retirement, she began volunteering with the American Red Cross. A lover of sports, Kath was a devoted Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and went to countless games over the years. She was also an avid reader and those who knew her will remember her reading while waiting for stop lights to change.

She was a woman of great faith and was initially a communicant of both the former St. Mary’s Church and later the former St. Teresa’s Church. Most recently she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and attended daily mass for many years.

Kathleen is survived by her brother, Leonard M. Yon and his husband Dan C. Pytko of Pittsfield, her nieces and caregivers, Patty Oslund-Fois of Wilbraham and Denice Yon of Pittsfield, as well as many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She also leaves her dear friend of 60 years, Eileen Hazelton of Danbury, CT.

Kath was predeceased by her brothers, Harold and Charles Yon and her sister Madeline L. Oslund.

SERVICES: Friends are invited to join with the family for calling hours on THURSDAY, November 4th from 9-10:30am at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. A. Peter Gregory officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Kathleen’s memory may be made payable to, “Hospice of Western & Central MA” and mailed to the funeral home at 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201
