Kenneth O. Wood

Kenneth O. Wood, age 93, of Pittsfield passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024. 

Born in Pittsfield, MA, on March 16, 1931, Kenneth was a son of the late Allen E. Wood, Sr., and Verda L. Burdick Wood Coates.  He attended Pittsfield schools.

Ken retired from General Electric, working in the T.K department.  In his youth, he worked for Petricca Construction Co. and Dennis Condron Construction, his brother-in-law. Ken was also an experienced handyman all his life and an avid forester cutting down many trees in Hindsdale for customers' firewood.  He was a long time member of ITAM and loved to fish. He traveled to Hawaii, Africa, Ireland with his friend and companion, Joan Douguay.  

His wife of 50 years, the former Barbara E. Wood, passed away in August of 2003. He leaves three daughters, Nancy L. Andrus of Old Orchard, ME; Valerie Persip of Pittsfield, MA; and Linda Wood of Pittsfield, MA; two sisters, Vera Haslefina and Beverly Bates, both of St. Augustine, FL; and five sisters and six brothers. He survives 6 grandchildren, Scott Andrus of Maine; Kevin Andrus of California; Earl Persip of Pittsfield; Jordan Wood of New Jersey; Cristina Wood of Pittsfield; and Trista Goins of South Carolina; twelve great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Woody loved driving his white truck (his pride and joy!) and going over to Teo’s to have his favorite Genny (beer).  Everyone knew his name at Teo’s and shouted his name when he walked in.  He always knew someone everywhere he went.

SERVICES: Friends are invited to join Woody's family at the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home for visitation on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 beginning at 10am. A funeral home prayer service led by Rev. Christopher Malatesta will begin at Noon. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to Hospice Care of the Berkshires and mailed to the funeral home at 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
