Laraine L. (Durkee) Taylor

Mrs. Laraine L. Durkee Taylor, age 77, formerly of 257 Highland Ave. Pittsfield, died Monday, May 18th at Springfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. Born in Pittsfield, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Marion Sweener Durkee. She attended the local schools and was employed initially at the former General Electric Co. here in Pittsfield. Most recently and for 25 years, she was employed as the Head of Housekeeping and Laundry services at the Springfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Laraine retired in 2005.

She enjoyed traveling with her sisters to family get-togethers and really enjoyed all of the family picnics. Born into a large family, there was always something going on in and around their home.

She is survived by her daughter, Tyril (Tarri) D. Barnes and her husband, Kevin of Pittsfield, her son, Brett Durkee of Florida, her brother, Norman Durkee of Pittsfield, her sisters, Carolyn Philips of Florida, Lynn Stedman of Dalton, Ardith Shadic of New York and Karen Anderson of Florida as well as her two grandsons, Jeffrey and Aaron Durkee. She was predeceased by her brothers, Lane Durkee and Kerry Durkee and her sisters, Janis Tworge and Judy DeCarlo. She also leaves many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Private services will be held for the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter, in care of the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home.
