Tribute

PITTSFIELD - Lillian (Lily) Patricia Flynn, 95, of 169 Elm St. died April 13th surrounded by family in the home she raised her children in, next door to the pharmacy her and her late husband founded.
Born in Fall River, MA on November 29, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lillian Duffy. She was a graduate 1943 of Durfee High School and continued her education at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston, where she was one of four women in her class. As the President of the sorority Lambda Kappa Sigma, Lily organized a cross-country train trip. The ladies had so much fun on their travels they came back late to school in the fall.
In 1947, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy. But not before she met the love of her life and another pharmacist, Thomas (Tom) F. Flynn. On October 12, 1948 they married at Immaculate Conception Church in Fall River.
On July 24, 1951 Lily and Tom opened Flynn's Pharmacy at 173 Elm St. She worked alongside Tom as a pharmacist, and did the store's financials. She started taking time off at the pharmacy when their family started to grow - and it grew until they had the total of 9 children. To this day, the pharmacy is still family owned and operated.
Lily was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and in the past she was a member of the Charismatic Renewal and the Good Shepherd Community. Because of her strong faith and peaceful demeanor, she was a spiritual mentor to many.
She enjoyed summers on Pontoosuc Lake, and never turned down a lobster roll. She loved to knit and all of her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sweaters, hats, mittens and Christmas stockings were stitched with love. Also, Lily was known for her infectious smile and she never left the house without her lipstick.
She leaves behind her children, Patricia Torra (James), Thomas Flynn III (Donna), Maureen Griffin, Christopher Flynn (Constance), Joan Salatino (Richard), and Erin Bassi of Pittsfield, MA, Kathleen Flynn of Natick, MA, Michael Flynn (Jane) of Newburyport, MA, Mary George (William) of Red Lodge, MT. She will be greatly missed by her 20 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many dear friends. Lily was predeceased by her husband, her sister Lucy Ward and a son-in-law, James Griffin.
The Flynn family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caretakers, Linda, Carol and Julie, not only for the outstanding care they gave to Lily, but for making it possible for their mom to remain comfortably in her own home.
A funeral mass was held privately at the Sacred Heart Church celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to: "Sacred Heart Church" and mailed to the Devanny-Condron Funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201
