Loretta G. Supple, 82, of Pittsfield passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Mount Carmel Care Center, where she had been receiving outstanding care for the last six months.
Born in Gouverneur, NY on August 23, 1938, Loretta was the youngest daughter of the late Earl Eugene and Bertha Mae Closs.
After graduating from high school in 1955, she began working as a hostess alongside her sister Pearl at Lincoln Farms Restaurant in Utica, NY. It was there she met the love of her life, as John “Jack” V. Supple soon became a regular customer simply for the excuse to be around her. The two were married on May 9, 1959 in Utica, NY.
Her new husband’s ongoing work for General Electric soon brought them to the Berkshires, which became the ideal place for them to start a family. Over the next three decades, Loretta worked tirelessly at raising their four sons the right way.
However, as the boys got older, she also began work in 1979 at England Brothers department store. Initially employed behind the store’s well-known candy counter, she later moved upstairs to be the lead salesperson in the furniture department. Loretta remained with the company even after the doors closed for good in 1988, shrewdly kept on by the owner in order to use her skills in selling off the store’s fixtures.
She then seamlessly transitioned into banking, serving as a teller at various banks around Pittsfield for the next 15 years, eventually retiring from TD Bank in 2004.
A lover of both exceptional food and games of chance, Loretta would regularly gather with her friends for the “Scratch Club” she founded – an always entertaining night out at a local restaurant to drink, dine, laugh, and, of course, scratch lottery tickets together.
Mrs. Supple is survived by four sons, Michael J. Supple (Tracey) of Belchertown, MA, Paul V. Supple (Janet) of Lafayette, CA, Kenneth F. Supple (Tina) of Pittsfield and John V. Supple, Jr. of Pittsfield and her 6 grandchildren, Tyler, Brendan, Kendall, Cameron, Reagan and Quinn. She also leaves her sister, Shirley Lyons of Lady Lake, FL and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, who passed away on February 7, 2019 after 59 wonderful years of marriage, Loretta was predeceased by two infant sons, Joseph and James, and four siblings, Audrey DiRoberts, Marion Clemente, Pearl Kuhl and Fred Closs.
A private graveside service was held on Friday for the Supple family at St. Joseph’s Cemetery under the direction of Devanny-Condron Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, and in recognition of the truly loving care Loretta received from the staff there, memorial donations may be made payable to “Mt. Carmel Care Center” and mailed to the funeral home at 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
