Mrs. Louise L. LeVardi Barnes, age 78, formerly of 189 Churchill St. Pittsfield, died Tuesday morning, May 2nd at the Berkshire Medical Center. She was born in Pittsfield, Jan. 4, 1939, one of 13 children born to Thomas and Minnie R. Winchell LeVardi.
A 1957 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, she was employed at the former New England Telephone Co. as an administrative assistant in the Engineering Dept., she retired from its successor firm, Verizon in 1987. A longtime member of the local Telephone Pioneers of America, she served as President in 1982. Louise was a very kind and gentle soul; she enjoyed stamp collecting, cooking, fishing and summer camping at Camp Overflow in Otis with her late husband, Doug. Louise, as a community service, went door to door as a volunteer solicitor for the Cancer, Heart and Diabetes fund drives for the past 35 years.
Her husband of 39 years, Douglas Barnes, died Dec. 22, 2006.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her sons, Michael J. Lindsey and his wife, Deborah J. Lindsey of Hinsdale and their children, Theora and Mitchell, as well as Louise’s great-grandson, Brayden Whittaker, another son, Edward R. Lindsey of Pittsfield and his children, Deidra and Kera, her 5 brothers, Thomas, Jerry, Robert, James and Gregory LeVardi and her 5 sisters, Anne Ostaski, Rene Kelly, Janie Calvo, Arlene Langendorfer and Joan Marie Sanchez. She was predeceased by her brother, George LeVardi and her sister, Dolores St. Germaine.
Barnes, Louise L., age 78, of Pittsfield, died May 2nd. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME WILL BE FRIDAY, May 12th from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held SATURDAY morning, May 13th at 10:00 am at the funeral home with the Rev. David Aufiero, administrator of St. Mark’s Church , officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program at St. Marks Church in care of the funeral home.
