Marc Allan Griffin passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA of acute liver disease at the too young age of 38. His life was short, but he touched many hearts.
Marc was born in Pittsfield, MA in 1982 to Ron and Lynne Griffin. He was a 2001 graduate of Pittsfield High School and proudly joined the United States Coast Guard where he served on an ice cutter in Maine.
After leaving the Coast Guard, Marc moved to California where he met his former wife Sara Lopez, and mother to his daughter Ella. Marc moved back to the Berkshires where he reconnected with and in 2014 married Stephanie Wixsom with whom he shared a beautiful life not only as spouses but best friends. He was most recently employed by The City of Pittsfield as a painter.
As a child Marc loved to play all sports and played golf as much as he could throughout his life. He was a lover of all animals, anything romantic, movies, sports, camping, traveling, going to the casino, gourmet dinners either cooked at home or out and playing family poker games even when he caught "The Griffin Straight". Marc loved to work in his yard on his garden and was especially proud of his lawn. He was devoted to his family and had so much pride in everything he had accomplished and overcame in his short time.
Marc is survived by his wife and best friend, Stephanie, and stepson, Skylar Whitney, of Lanesborough, MA; his parents, Ronald and Lynne Griffin of Dalton, MA; his brother, Jeremy Griffin of Dalton, MA; his brother, Kevin (Rebecca) Griffin of Wilmington, MA; his daughter, Ella Lopez, of Tustin, CA; his in-laws, David and Joan Wixsom of South Yarmouth, MA; brother-in-law, Michael Wixsom (Francielle) and niece, Layla Wixsom of Pittsfield, MA; and uncles, Raymond Griffin (Pat) of Spring Hill, FL, Daniel Griffin (Karen MacHaffie) of Dalton, MA; Ken Griffin (Sheri) of Dalton, MA; Aunt Cynthia (Harold) Welch of Boston, MA and of course his beloved cats Loki and Odie.
We are grateful for the wonderful care Marc received by the CCU nurses at BMC. They cared and comforted him as his family were unable to due to COVID restrictions.
Due to the current restrictions a celebration of Marc's life will be held later in the spring. The DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, friends may mail donations to the funeral home made payable to Stephanie Griffin to assist the family with the extraordinary medical expenses associated with Marc's care.
