Mrs. Margaret M. “ Peg”  Murphy Gregory, age 83, of Pittsfield, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 30th at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Pittsfield, June 28, 1933, she was one of 13 children of the late Thomas F. and Mary Jane Robinson Murphy. A lifelong resident, she was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School. She began her working career at the former J.J. Newberry’s store on North St. where she worked for a number of years. She later was employed as the Bookstore Manager at St. Joseph’s High School for 18 years.

A communicant of St. Charles Church, Peg was a longtime volunteer in the community both at her children’s school and at the Catholic Youth Center. She was honored as the Volunteer of the Year at the CYC in March of 1975. In 1979, she  was named “ Mother of the Year ” by St. Joseph’s High School. Treasurer of the SJHS Booster club, she was one of the founding members of Bingo at the high school.  Proud of her Irish Heritage and her children, she attended many if not all of their school activities including football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, soccer and cheerleading. She also enjoyed day trips and traveling to visit with her family in Essex Junction, VT, Orlando, FL, and Northern Virginia.

Peg was passionately devoted to her ten children, Raymond M. Gregory, Jr. and his companion, Judy Whitney of Dalton, Robert T. Gregory and his wife,  Georgine, of Essex Junction VT, Shawna C. Gregory of Great Falls, VA, Charlene C. Barber and her husband, Paul, of Orlando, FL, Christopher A. Gregory and his wife, Diane, of Mesa, AZ, Paul F. Gregory and his wife, Sue, of Pittsfield,  John E. Gregory of Great Falls, VA, Margaret A. Bilotta and her husband John, of Hinsdale,  Jane M. Gregory of Pittsfield,  and  Matthew G. Gregory and his wife, Deb,  of Dalton. She was the proud Nana of 16 grandchildren, Ben, Liza, Jessica, Nicole, Peter, Brandon, Morgan, Caitlin, Ryan, Erica, Jonathon, Alicia, Nicholas, Charles, Elise and Noah and the proud Grand MaMa of 12 great grandchildren, Reese, Rheya, Rylin, Raven, Lena, Levi, Landyn, Matthew, Ryleigh, Avereigh, Chase and Chloe.  

She is also survived by her three sisters, Ann Carroll, Rita Welch and Patricia and her husband Robert Jarvis, as well as six brothers, Thomas, James, Bernie and his spouse Sheila, Michael and his spouse Daniel, Patrick and his spouse Vilma and Mark Murphy and many nieces and nephews. Peg was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine Higgins, and Mary Ellen ‘Bodie’ Goodnow, and her brother, William "Billy" Murphy.

Gregory, Margaret M. “Peg ”, age  83, of Pittsfield, died April 30th in Pittsfield. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be WEDNESDAY from 4 to 7. Funeral services will be held THURSDAY morning beginning at 9:45 am at the funeral home followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Charles Church with the Rev.  A. Peter Gregory, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph or to the St. Charles Memorial Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
