July 2, 1932 ~ December 1, 2023 (age 91) 91 Years Old
Mrs. Maria Grazia Danese Cirillo, age 91, of 72 Leona Dr. Pittsfield, died Friday evening, December 1, 2023 at the Berkshire Medical Center after a short illness.
She was born July 2, 1932, in Abbateggio in the Province of Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy, the daughter of the late Guistino and Filomena Danese.
Her late husband of 68 years, Alfonso Cirillo, died March 27, 2020. She married him at LaMadonna Del Elcina Church in Abbateggio on July 10, 1952 and together, they came with their infant daughter, Anna, to make their home in this country, the following August 13, 1953.
Initially, Nonnina was employed at the former Stratton Coat Factory and later at the former Coat Factory. She then became employed at the former Shaeffer Easton Paper Co., retiring from there in 1988. However, when asked, about her favorite job, she did not hesitate to respond “becoming the cook at the St. Joseph’s Church Rectory” for 18 years.
Among her many interests were cooking and baking for family and friends, as well as traveling, both nationally and internationally. Nonnina always loved their trips to visit with extended family in the Windsor, Ontario area of Canada. She and Alfonso were thrilled to visit Jerusalem and the Holy Land along with accompanying her daughters and their families on vacations to the Cape and even to Mexico. Nonnina, a little bit of an adventurer, even loved white water rafting while vacationing with family in Belize!
Never one to pass up a car ride, she loved to go shopping at the Mall back in the day, and her Sunday afternoons on the Pontoon on Onota Lake. Most recently, she loved to join her daughters and sons-in-law at the family Winery, Balderdash, located in Richmond.
Her priorities were always in the following order- “Faith, Family, Friends and Food.” These most important “4 F’s” governed her daily life and continue to be the credo that her family abides by today.
Matriarch of her family, she is survived by her two daughters, Anna Stack, and her husband, Shaun Stack of Pittsfield, with whom she made her home, and Donna Hanson and her husband, Christian Hanson, also of Pittsfield. She was the very “Proud Nonnina” of Christopher Stack and his wife, Catalina and their two daughters, Marcela and Isabella, all of Holliston, MA and Corey Stack and his wife, Ana Maria, and their son, Brandon, all of Natick, MA, as well as her grandson, Nico Terpak of Everett, MA.
Nonnina also is survived by her “Baby Brother” Tony Danese and his wife Lella, of Pittsfield. Additionally she leaves many nieces and nephews, both in the U.S. and in Canada. A kind and loyal person, she was a lifelong friend of Lina Simeone, as well as her special friends, Tony and Bettina Salatino.
In addition to her late husband, Alfonso, she was predeceased by her siblings, Guido Danese and Angela D’Amore.
Calling hours will be held this Wednesday, December 6th at St. Joseph’s Church beginning at 11:00 AM. The Celebration of Nonnina's life will continue with the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1 PM with her friend and pastor, the Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, officiating. She will rejoin her husband Alfonso as Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make a memorial donation to “Elder Service of Berkshire Country” in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME which is assisting the Cirillo Family.
