Martin R. McColgan

February 19, 1938 ~ June 22, 2022 (age 84)

Tribute

Martin R. McColgan, age 84, of Lanesborough died Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Pittsfield on February 19, 1938, he was the only son of the late Raymond G. and Lucinda R. Chapin McColgan. He attended the former Pontoosuc and later Chester, MA schools prior to returning to Pittsfield and enrolling in the former Central Junior High School. Continuing his education, he attended St. Joseph’s High School, returning many years later to proudly earn his diploma in 2013.
Marty enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and after serving 20 years, retired in 1975 as an E-8, or Senior Chief Petty Officer. He then continued his work as a Radar Technician for the Dept. of Defense at Westover Air Field as a civilian contractor and transferred to the Airway Facility for the FAA at the “Golf Ball” on the mountain in Cummington in 1976. Following his second retirement, Marty started working as the Onota Building Facilities manager here on North Street from 1996-2006.
Marty held golf memberships at one time at the former Skyline and Pontoosuc Country Clubs, then Waubeeka and most recently at Berkshire Hills Country Club. He loved to golf and spend time with his pals ice fishing.
A US Navy veteran, he held memberships with the American Legion, Dalton, MA Post #155 and the American Legion Post #359 in Titusville, FL.
He and his wife of 63 years, Joan Parzick McColgan, were married October 25, 1958. They were longtime communicants of St. Joseph’s Church. They spent the last 15 winters down in Florida and had countless adventures together.
In addition to his wife Joan, Marty is survived by four sons, Patrick M. McColgan PLS (Lisa), of Lanesboro, Thomas R. McColgan of Albany, NY, Atty. Daniel J. McColgan of New Bedford, MA, and Dr. Brian P. McColgan (Branden) of Phoenix, AZ, his daughter, Kelly J. Baldassaro (Mike) of Hinsdale, MA, four grandchildren, Amy (Josh), Matt, Lance and Ben, and his great grandson Dominic. He also leaves his sisters, Linda Messana (Charlie) of Hinsdale, Donna M. Garzone, Patricia A. Casucci (Bob), Mary D. Casucci, Sheila J. Williams and Rebecca E. Ellsworth, all of Pittsfield, and his half-brother, Richard Wheeler of Bradenton, FL.
Marty touched so many lives and was often referred to as “one of a kind.” He had more friends than anyone will ever know about and we know he’s already golfed 18 holes with his dear friend Malcom Frazer in Heaven and is now hanging out with him, and others at the “19th hole.”
