Mary Kelley Coswell, age 91, died Tuesday, July 6, 2021 in her home in West Roxbury, in the company of her family.

Mary was born in Pittsfield, January 27, 1930, the only child of the late Francis and Ursula Leona Smith Kelley. Educated at both St. Joseph’s Grammar and High School, she continued her education at Bay Path Junior College in Longmeadow.  After earning her degree at Bay Path, Mary worked at the former General Electric Co. Transformer Division, where she met her future husband. Mary continued her employment with the Colund Aerial Survey and Photography Co. in Pittsfield.

Mary and her husband Richard were married Aug. 20, 1955 in the former St. Teresa’s Church in a union that lasted almost 66 years.

After living in Pittsfield, Mary and Richard moved and spent seven happy years in Glens Falls, NY. Moving again, they built their own home in Ashburnham, MA, where they lived for the next 50 years. Always active in her community, Mary was the first woman elected to the Ashburnham Board of Selectmen.

In addition to Richard, she is survived by her son, Stephen P. Coswell and his wife, Marianne Coswell, of Ashburnham, MA, her daughter, Susan C. DuPont and her husband, Eric DuPont of Rosindale, MA and her grandchildren, Christopher DuPont and Catherine DuPont, as well as close friends in Pittsfield.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated this Monday, July 12th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 414 North St. Pittsfield, MA with the Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 222 Pecks Rd. Pittsfield, MA. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the “Mass. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals” and mailed to the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home at 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
