Tribute

She was born in Pittsfield, Oct. 12, 1937, the daughter of the late Walter and Frances 'Honey' T. Hall O'Neil. A 1955 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School, Mary Jane was a Cheerleader there for both her Junior and Senior years. Active with the Yearbook Committee, she also sang with the Passion Choir and the Glee Club there.
Mary Jane was awarded her nursing degree from St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Bridgeport, CT. in 1958.
Returning to Pittsfield, she began her nursing career at the former Hillcrest Hospital prior to becoming employed at the Berkshire Medical Center in 1966. While at BMC, she served as the administrative nursing director for the second shift. Mary Jane was well respected amongst her peers and the management of BMC. She was named Manager of the Year award at one point and developed many lasting friendships as a result of her tenure there. Mary Jane retired in 2002 only to continue on call for ten more years.
A member of the Persip Post # 68 of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, she also enjoyed traveling both here and abroad, including her trips to Italy, and Ireland. Cape Cod was also a favorite destination. She and her friends enjoyed both dining out and their frequent get gatherings.
She is survived by her two sons, Christopher J. Marcinczyk of Pittsfield and John P. " Jay" Marcinczyk of Huntington Beach, Ca., her two sisters, Carol A. Robinson and Judy Scago, both of Pittsfield, her two granddaughters, Trenna and Lina and her former husband and friend, Val Marcinczyk as well as the entire Marcinczyk family.
Her beloved daughter, Cynthia E. Marcinczyk, died Jan. 11, 1988.
Graveside services in the family lot will be scheduled for later in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Community College Nursing Program in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
