Matthew Stephen Coe

Matthew Stephen Coe, 33 of Pittsfield, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, December 18, 2021.

Born May 23, 1988, he was the son of Stephen Coe and Adrianne Grover.  Matthew attended Pittsfield High School and later went on to earn his GED.  At the time of his passing, he was employed at A Thing or Two Variety Store in Pittsfield, where he had worked for the last few years.

Matthew was a good, caring young man who would do anything for anybody.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and loved to cook creative and original recipes.  He had a natural talent for music, with the piano being his instrument of choice.  Matthew’s happiest memories were made while he was traveling, particularly to the ocean, and he especially loved his trip to Provincetown last summer.  

In addition to his parents, Matthew is survived by his brother, Jesse Coe and his sister Alice Coe; his maternal grandmother, Marilyn Gerhard and her husband, “Grandpa” Michael Gerhard, and paternal grandparents, Gerald and Marie Coe.  He also leaves his aunts and uncles; Michael Grover and Elizabeth McNitt Grover, Donna Grover, Philip Grover, Heather Grover-Root, Kathy Jo Grover, Cathy Baldasaro, David and Wendy Coe, Debbie and Michael Lindsey, Pauline Coe and Richard and Michelle Coe, as well as many cousins, and his one and only niece, Chloe Stansen.  Matthew also leaves his longtime friend, Frederick Streit.  He is predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Dr. Henry Grover; uncles Paul Grover and David Grover, and his beloved sister, Justina Coe, who passed June 14, 2020.

Private services will be held with the Rev. Joel Bergerland, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church.  Memorial donations may be made in Matthew’s honor to the Berkshire Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
