Mr. Paul D. Benoit, age 73, of 360 W. Housatonic St.Pittsfield, died Tuesday afternoon at the Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Springfield, April 17, 1945, he was the son of the late Alme and Jeanette Bouchard Benoit. He attended the schools there and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic School. While in the service, he did obtain his GED. Employed as a heavy equipment operator, he worked as such in excavating, primarily in water and sewer repair and repaving in Paris, Texas for 20 years and later performing the same tasks for 20 years in California. He retired as a result of ill health after suffering an initial heart attack in 2009. Paul moved to Pittsfield the following year.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Honor Guard at the U.S. Capitol while the late President John F. Kennedy, Jr. lay in state.
Among his survivors would be his brother, Richard Edward Benoit of West Allis, Wisconsin .
At Mr. Benoit’s request, cremation will take place with a memorial service to follow at Soldier On. Inurnment would follow in the Mass. State Veterans Cemetery in Agawam, Ma. at a date to be determined.
