Tribute

It is said it takes many stars to light up the sky. Our brightest star has been extinguished but will continue to glow as our guiding light throughout our lives. Our Mother, Pauline F. Moon, a ninety-eight-year resident of Pittsfield, Massachusetts died in her sleep with her loving son Ronnie by her side on Wednesday morning of December 29, 2021.
Pauline is survived by her six children, Jean (Leo) Lazits, Richard (Ruth) Moon, Linda (William) Silbor, Robert (Lesley) Moon, Christine Moon, Ronald (Sharon) Moon, a sister Dorothy Bence, and one brother-in-law Winnie Kie. Pauline has eleven grandchildren, Scott, Keith, Kurt, Allison, Michael, Shannon, Shaun, Laura, Morgan, Caitlin, Brandon and two step grandchildren Jennifer and Amy as well as many beautiful great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Napoleon and Cecelia Callanan Trembley, Pauline was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert Allen Moon whom she married on September 30, 1944, her sisters Cecelia (John) Berte, Olive (Maurice) Levesque, her brother Paul (Evelyn) Trembley, sisters-in-law Betty (David) Norton and Isabelle (Gene) O'Brien and brothers-in-law Richard Moon and David Norton.
A 1942 graduate of Pittsfield High School, our mother's accomplishments and contributions to society have set the bar very high for the rest of us. She was a pianist, singer, writer, philosopher, theologian, and historian, baker of all yummy things, square dancer, line dancer and local stage performer. She was quick to laugh at her own mistakes and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge as a lifelong avid reader.
As a widow of three years, Pauline kicked off a whirlwind of volunteerism and activism in 1990 as an intellectual woman on a mission that would carry her through to her final retirement in 2015 with over 3000 volunteer hours working on behalf of her community. She held many committee memberships & board leadership roles with the Golden Seniors Club, from 1990 to 2005 & as President in 1992, IUE 254/255 General Electric Co. Pensions & Retirements, Pittsfield Council on Aging 1996 - 2002 & as President 2003, Senior Ball Events Organizer 1998 - 2000, RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program of Berkshire County 1996 - 2002, Quality Time Club 1996-2002, President 2003, Money Talks Focus Group Member & Author of many articles in the Greylock Federal Credit Union 1999, Coltsville Community Police Center 1999-2000, American Heart Association Fundraising Awards 1995 & 1996, Various Cancer Drives, Spaghetti Dinners, holiday events, parade organizer and float participant. In 2012 Pauline traveled to Schenectady New York with fellow pensioners from IUE local 255 to hold a protest rally to protect the pension rights from GE Corporation's attempts to defund the long-standing employee program for retirees and their beneficiaries. The protesters won their case. The awards, accolades & certifications our mother received through this chapter in her life is beyond phenomenal and yet she remained forever humble. Her greatest achievement was raising six children with a very ill husband all her married life. She instilled in all of us a solid work ethic and a deep faith in God. For that we will be eternally grateful. Pauline, Polly, Daughter, Sister, Friend, Wife, Mom, Grandma Gigi and great grandma your work here on earth is done. As we find our way through this our darkest hour we will continue to follow your guiding light. We love and thank you Mom. May you rest in peace.
Services for Pauline will be private for her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
