PITTSFIELD - Richard P. Moon, age 92, passed away at Berkshire Medical Center on Saturday, June 5, 2021, with family at his side.

Born in Pittsfield, MA on Jan. 5, 1929, he was the son of Clyde A. and Gertrude S. (Martin) Moon-Pavelka. He was educated in local schools.

He was a gifted, self-taught, guitarist and played in many local country bands throughout Berkshire County and New York State. He was sought after to be a part of any country music venue.

Richard was employed for a short period by General Electric Co. and the Tannery, but eventually became self-employed working in house and lawn maintenance, especially inside and outside painting. He also had a large bicycle repair business out of his garage and was known to be able to repair most anything. Richard discontinued his business long ago, but still had requests long after from individuals seeking his expertise.

He is survived by his niece and caregiver, Deborah Norton-Kuni (Edward), his niece Kathleen A. McMahon-Norris (Steve), his nephews, Daniel A. Norton (Jen) and Edward C. McMahon Sr. (Gloria), as well as another niece who he was close to, Donna Pompi (Mark) and nephew, Win Kie, along with many other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Pauline Moon.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Robert Moon, his sister Elizabeth V. Norton and her husband David, his sister Isabel M. O’Brien and her husband Eugene.

At his request, there will be no calling hours. Devanny-Condron Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A graveside service will be at the convenience of the family with burial in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made in his name to the Sonsini Animal Shelter.
