Robert Ernest MacDowell, 63, of Paul Smiths, NY, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 4, 2025. Born March 27, 1961. Bob was raised by loving parents Robert A. and Margaret T. MacDowell of Pittsfield, MA. A teacher for 35 years, he touched countless lives through his work at Hoosac Valley High School, Cheshire, MA and later at Nessacus Middle School, Dalton, MA. Earlier in his life, he was an avid paddler in the marathon canoe racing community, well known for his grit and determination in the boat and for forging long-lasting friendships. Bob was a passionate outdoorsman, often spending hours in the woods snowshoeing and hunting with his beagles. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, sharing his passion for the woods, archery, hunting, and fishing. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Karen (formerly Doerle), his son Shane and his wife Danielle, and his daughter Mariah and her fiance Chris Thompson. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Valla, Walter, and Robert. He is also survived by his sister Peggy Kordana (Mark), his aunt Mary Lou MacDowell, father-in-law Walter Doerle (Ellen), and brothers and sisters-in-law, Diane Matras (Stan), Scott Doerle (Anna), Keith Doerle (Stephanie), Craig Doerle (Sally), Brad Doerle (Jen), Heidi Hamilton and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Bob was predeceased by his father and mother, and his mother-in-law Phyllis J. Doerle. Keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no services. If you knew Bob, we ask you to pour a shot of whiskey/bourbon and toast to a life well lived, a heart full of love, and memories that will forever warm our hearts. May he rest in peace.
