Robert James Toth, 68, died November 6, 2018 at Berkshire Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born on 12/29/1949 in Bridgeport, CT and raised in Fairfield, CT.

After graduation from Roger Ludlow High School, Bob served in the US Navy aboard the USS Mullinix during the Vietnam War between 1968-1972.

He graduated from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT and later earned an MBA from The Isenberg School of Management, UMass Amherst.

Bob began his career in the art paper industry at Rising Paper. Since 1987, Bob had been employed by Canson, Inc. of South Hadley, MA, most recently as Vice President of Marketing. Through his work, Bob enjoyed frequent travel, nationally and internationally.

He was warm and funny and got along well with people. He was a lifelong Democrat. Bob loved swimming in Wellfleet, St. John, Goose Pond and any nice body of water. He ran, cycled and hiked and liked to cook and bake. He was a dearly loved member of his wife’s large extended family.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Cynthia Read Gardner, and beloved sons Nicholas Gardner Toth of Aurora, Colorado and Andrew Gardner Toth of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He also leaves Nick’s wife, Sarah Elliott, whom he loved like a daughter.

Other survivors include 3 nephews, 10 nieces and a brother, David Toth. He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer Albert Toth and Marie Schwarzkopf Souza.

Memorial donations may be made to Mass. Audubon-Berkshire Sanctuaries, Berkshire Natural Resources Council or Appalachian Mountain Club, in care of Devanny-Condron Funeral Home, 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201.

A memorial gathering is scheduled for SATURDAY, December 8th at 1:30PM at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 27 East St. Pittsfield. All are invited to join with the family in remembering Bob.
