Mr. Ronald J. Janis Jr., also known and remembered as "Papa Ron", age 59, of Pittsfield, passed away Tuesday, May 25th peacefully in his home.
He was born in Pittsfield on September 11, 1961, the eldest of three children of Ronald and Pauline Janis (Baroli) and he graduated from Taconic High School in 1979.
Ron spent his younger years as a mechanic with some years at G.E. After being married and having children, he attained his optician license and co-owned South County Opticians with his wife Karen Ruscio and in-laws, Nicholas and Josephine Ruscio. Many family members had their time working at the optical shop including his mother Pauline as a bookkeeper and his younger brother Kevin as his apprentice. He spent his later years managing Hashim's package store where he treasured his time visiting with his co-workers and many loyal customers.
Ron was a simple man, with family being his top priority. He dedicated his life to taking care of his family and always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. His heart was bigger than his body. He spent the last few years of his life living with his parents and being their caretaker. Ron was known for his wittiness and his classic, sometimes over the line jokes. Besides a joke teller Ron was a great cards player. He played in many leagues throughout his lifetime but his favorite was playing pitch on Friday nights at his sister Lynne's house with his brother Kevin and their spouses. Ron took much pride in being a father and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his children. Weekend visits to Timothy's house, family dinners at Amelia’s and Friday morning breakfast with Harrison. Ron looked forward to his annual Hampton Beach vacation with all of his grandchildren. Known to many as “Papa Ron”, his eyes would beam of light and love whenever he looked at his grand children. Anyone who knows Papa Ron also knows his love for his Golden Oldies and always had wanted to play on Name That Tune gameshow.
Ron is survived by his father, Ronald Janis Sr., his children: Timothy (Jen) Janis, Amelia (Eric) McCormack and Harrison Janis along with their mother, Karen Ruscio, a beloved friend, his brother Kevin (Christine) Janis and sister Lynne (Mike) Storie. Ronald is also survived by his niece, Mckenna Ferris, and his grandchildren: Keegan Aldam, Brodi, Bradley, and Cali McCormack. Ron's mother Pauline Janis passed away just a few short days after him on May 29th.
Ronald and Pauline will together share private services for their families at the funeral home and burial this Friday, June 4, 2021.
His children will be holding a “Celebration of Life” for Ron on Sunday, June 6, 2021 from 1-4PM at 71 Housatonic St. Lenox, MA for all who would like to give their condolences and share stories of their father.
