Mrs. Sally A. Hillard Ottman, age 86 (perpetually 29), of Devonshire Estates in Lenox, a former longtime resident of North Adams, died Sunday, December 13th at her home.
Born in North Adams, January 14, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Mabel Howard Hillard. Educated in the local schools, she was a 1951 graduate of Drury High School where she was involved in many clubs and activities. On June 16, 1962, she married Roger Ottman and was married for nearly 40 years until his death in April of 2002. She was employed at Sprague Electric Company as the executive secretary for the late Robert Sprague, and served in that capacity until the company relocated to the Boston area. Sally then became employed with MRA Laboratories (a spin off company from Sprague) as secretary to founder Dr. Galeb Maher until her retirement in 2000.
Sally was an active member of the former First United Methodist Church in North Adams, participating in the Friendly Circle. Sally was a past Worthy Matron of the Naomi Chapter No. 17,Order of the Eastern Star, a Deputy Grand Matron, and Deputy Grand Representative, as well as a past Worthy Advisor, Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She enjoyed golf, her dogs, traveling with Roger for Eastern Star and Grand Commandery Knights Templar events, and all of the activities and friendships she made with the members of these groups. Sally had a radiant personality that spread through all of her relationships, friends and family alike. Her endless love for her nieces and nephews was always evident. In recent years, she developed strong bonds with her friends at Devonshire Estates.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her sister, Nancy (Norman) Allen, brother, John "Jack" F. Hillard, Jr., her nephew, Peter Hillard, and grand-nephew, Scott Jamula.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Carol Hillard of Longwood, FL, her nieces and nephews, Karen Hillard of Lexington, KY, Neal (Suzanne) Hillard of Moncks Corner, SC, Susan (Michael) Oliveto of Orlando, FL, William (Lisa) Allen of Adams, Cynthia (Thomas) Jamula of Pittsfield, Diane (Geoff) Marris of Bradenton Beach, FL, James (Debra) Allen of New Ashford, her 2 cousins, Kenneth Howard of Pownal, VT and Janet Goren of Wynnewood, PA, and her many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of her Life will be held following graveside services at Southview Cemetery in the Spring when it is safer to gather. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Naomi Chapter No. 17, O.E.S., in care of the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home, 40 Maplewood Ave. Pittsfield, MA 01201
