William E. Jefferson

William E. Jefferson, 85 of Becket, MA, died in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 18, 2021.

Born in Pittsfield, MA on October 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Edgar and Florence Farnhum Jefferson.  William graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1955 and beginning that year, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Canisteo, until his honorable discharge in 1961.

William married the former Louise Kuneth In Sacred Heart Church on January 16, 1960 and together they shared 55 years of marriage until her passing on January 10, 2015.  He was previously employed by the G.E. Naval Department and later worked for the Mead Corporation, where he retired as a Class 3 Fireman. William was a member of the former St. Matthews Parish in Becket and St. Mary's Church in Lee, MA. 

William loved football, Budweiser, and Buddy, his dog, who was his best friend.

William is survived by his son William B. Jefferson and his wife Michele, of Puebo West, CO, and two daughters, Patricia Jefferson of Jacksonville, FL and Melissa Jefferson Castegnaro and her husband, David, of Becket, MA.  William also leaves his grandchildren Sabrina Brechtl, William A. Jefferson, Christina Jefferson, Nicholas Jefferson and his wife, Rachel Jefferson, and Heidi Jefferson, as well as 7 great grandchildren, Teagan, Breighlyn, Amelia, Joey, Matthew, Savanah and Zayden. 

In addition to his wife and parents, William is predeceased by his sisters, Jean Panetti and Joan Aslop, and his brother, David Jefferson.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 23 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at Devanny-Condron Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 191 Elm Street, Pittsfield.  Burial with full military honors will immediately follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
