Zenon Babis

Mr. Zenon Babis, age 78, of Pittsfield passed away at home on Sunday, September 10, 2023.

Mr. Babis was born in Warsaw, Poland on August 23, 1945. He was a son of the late Jozef and Helena Marczak Babis and was educated in the local schools there. Shortly after high school, Zenon was enlisted in the Polish Army and served for nearly a decade. He moved to the Berkshires in the early 70s to be closer to his sister Bogumila Sawicki and fell in love with the area.

He married the former Irene Jaworowska on December 3, 1977. The two were married for 43 years before her passing on February 2, 2021.

Zenon worked for many years for Berkshire Metal Spinning and worked his way up the ranks. He eventually owned the business prior to his retirement.

Mr. Babis was a talented woodworker and proudly renovated his own home. He was an avid birdwatcher and never turned down the opportunity for a heated politics discussion.

Above all else, Zenon was a kind and gentle man and loved spending time with his family, especially his only daughter Margaret Gedek and grandson Matthew Gedek, both of Avon, CT. He had a heart of gold and a great sense of humor.

In addition to his daughter and grandson, Zenon is survived by his sisters, Bogumila Sawicki and Maryla Pilichowska, both living in Poland, nieces and nephews, Michael, Henry and Marek Sawicki, and Beata Pawlowska, his neighbors and dear friends, Kim and Mike Gwilt, and other extended family members in Poland.

In addition to his parents and wife, Zenon was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Boleslaw Sawicki and Waldek Pilichowski, and his niece Christina Sawicki.

Services will be private for the family.
