W. Carolyn Scully, age 90, 20 Daytona Ave. Pittsfield, died Tuesday, May 9th at the Berkshire Medical Center. She was born in Pittsfield, Oct. 24, 1926, the daughter of the late Carl and Winifred Shand Rayner. She began her education in the Pittsfield schools and graduated from Lenox High School. A waitress by profession, she was employed initially at the former West Shore Club until its closing. She then became employed at the New England Chowder House on Dalton Ave. and eventually retired from there at the age of 78. Carolyn loved working at the Chowder House while taking care of her friends and interacting with the customers.
She attended St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. A patron of Mohegan Sun and games of chance, she also enjoyed going to Bingo several nights a week here in Pittsfield. An avid reader, she enjoyed snowmobiling in her younger years.
Her husband of 55 years, William E. Scully, died May 13, 1999.
She is survived by her two daughters, Karen A. Peters, and Deborah M. King of Pittsfield, and her two sons, William E. Scully, Jr. and Daniel L. Scully, both of Pittsfield, her brother, John Rayner of Pittsfield, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great –grandsons. Her daughter, Mrs. Lisa M. Kiernan, died Nov. 8, 2000. Her sister, Ruth Miller and her brother, Carl Rayner both predeceased.
Graveside services will be held TUESDAY afternoon at 1:00 PM at Pittsfield Cemetery. Those attending are asked to gather inside the gate of the cemetery at 12:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
