Mr. Gerald Binder, age 79, a lifelong resident of the Berkshires, died Saturday morning , June 13, 2009 at his home. He was born in Pittsfield, June 5, 1930, the son of the late Joseph and Fanny Broverman Binder. He was educated in the Pittsfield schools and was a 1948 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1952 graduate of Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.
A U.S. Army sergeant of the Korean war, he was awarded the Silver Star. He and his late wife enjoyed traveling to both the Caribbean and Maine and after her death he spent quite a bit of time during the summer in Maine. He also enjoyed hiking. He worked for J. B. Paper company, his family business for over 50 years and was sole proprietor after the retirement of his siblings for 26 years.
He and his wife, the late Lucille M. Louis Binder were married in 1955. She died September 1, 2001.
He is survived by 2 sons, Kevin S. Binder of Baltimore, MD; Glen B. Binder of Montclair, N.J.; 2 daughters, Kathy Petrucci of Dalton, Dawn Sacks of Leverett, MA; 11 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Shirley Taetle, Jean Binder and Pearl Rosker all of Boynton Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by 1 sister Ruth Marmorek.
FUNERAL SERVICES
A Graveside service will be held Tuesday June 16, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Pittsfield Cemetery Anshe Amunim section. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME which was in charge of arrangements.
